Just Another Opera 9.5 Topic :-)

By | August 10, 2007

It’s Friday and seems there won’t be any Opera 9.5 build today. But that’s not the main point. Today I’ve asked then they will provide any more information about Opera 9.5. I am just curious, that’s not a crime (I hope so). After few minutes my question was deleted (even all other times it wasn’t), so maybe Opera Destop Team are just too tired to answer questions about Opera 9.5. Anyway, just a friendly advice: you could save more time by writing 1 line with text “No Opera 9.5 this week” instead of deleting people questions (me included) :-)

    Sorry for your deleted comment.
    Opera Desktop Team Blog is to talk about actual build. Not of anything else. (Devs said)
    But sometimes somebody (included me) posts some “off-topic” comments and it seems that’s OK…just sometimes. But lately seems like everyone asks for Kestrel every day at every time. Devs are tired of answer that 9.5 Build will be available when ready. Not before.
    So Junyor said that from now on, every comment asking for Kestrel (9.5) will be deleted…so please stay on-topic.
    Sorry again but if you post a comment it must be to discuss the actual build.

    Also waiting desperately for Kestrel.

    I have serious problems with the mail/news/rss backend (RSS deadlocks, IMAP issues, and problems newgroups downloading every message since the begining of time).

    The current Oper 9.23 is causing me major issues because of this, so Kestrel (however buggy initially) will be a ste forward, even if it’s a temporary step backwards, I can help get then darn thing sorted.

    That’s what beta testing is. It seems Opera are trying to get things too perfect before releasing Kestrel, Desktop weekly testers are getting disillusioned, and things are going downhill..

    And you could respect the requests of the Opera Software Desktop Team.

  5. Andres Ruiz,

    It’s not more like I am very angry cause someone deleted my comment, we just want news.

    For example: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/kestrel-is-coming

    Friday, 22. June 2007

    says: “Within a few weeks we will publish 9.5 weeklies on this blog so everyone can start playing with it. ”

    I am sure that “a few” is less than 5 :-) Su just some updates would be great.

    i dont care about deleted posts. the lack of information is most important for me.

    @Vygantas Lipskas
    Yes, they made a mistake, they said a few weeks but I think they really mean…a few months :)

    By now, we just can wait, and talk about Kestrel in places like this but NOT in Opera Desktop Team Blog because our comments will be deleted.

    ODTB is just to discuss the actual build. Don’t forget.

    @Tim Altman
    Would it be so difficult for the Opera Software Desktop Team to post a “not this week’ announcement regarding Kestrel? Then maybe there’d be fewer posts asking where is it?

  9. Tim Altman says:

    @Bill: No, it’s not difficult, per se. But I suppose we expect our users to show some restraint and have some patience. Is that really too much to ask for?

  10. Bill says:

    @Tim Altman

    no, its not to much to ask for but it may be too much to expect. Given the craving/adictions/clammoring of the fan boys and girls (yes, me included) it would be prudent to do the posting early on Fridays when applicable.

    Personally I wish you all would also delete the clutter postings that just say things like: “yes”, ” first”, “thanks,”, “nice”, “got it”, “great”, “first”, etc….. I know it’s nice to be appreciated but it gets annoying searching for relavent posts.

    thanks, appreciate the response

  11. Tim Altman says:

    @Bill: At least we seem to have ended the “First! Second! Third!” phenomenon. Thank you for your input.

    @Tim Altman:

    I was talking with a friend about Adium X and the fact that they’re using a ticket-system to keep track of all the changes in their software.
    And suddenly Opera came in my mind and I was wondering why Opera doesn’t use such a ticket-system.

    Wouldn’t it be a good idea for Opera to use something like that? So everyone can take a look at open and closed tickets and can also submit own tickets for a certain problem they have.
    In that way it’s always transparent in which stage development has landed and how many tickets are left to solve.
