Google Chrome, The Most Popular Web Browser In The World
It looks like a fresh batch of the Internet Explorer TV ads and videos targeted at hipsters were not enough to accelerate the growth of Microsoft’s web browser, at least in a short term.
According to the latest report from StatCounter, Google Chrome has recently surpassed the IE and became the most popular web browser.
However, earlier this year, Microsoft has stated that they prefer HitsLink over the StatCounter, which, of course, still shows IE dominating the market with 50% vs. 17.41% respectively. Personally, we find it strange that there is such a difference between statistics.
Example:
Still, with the launch of Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Phone 8, we expect to see the Internet Explorer trend reversing in the near feature. Do you?

Hitslink gets data from 40 000 websites, while StatCounter from 3 000 000. I find Hitslink as highly inaccurate, they “normalize” the data based on just 40 000.

Statcounter counts every hit as unique user, so if I visit 100 pages with Chrome, it will mark as 100 users while NetApplications will count it as 1 vistior, which is far more accurate.
Internet junkies prefer Chrome over IE, and they surf web a lot, this is how you get misleading stats.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers
Just read the words _usage share_ it’s not browser share for a reason, nobody claims all stats are 100% accuarte but it’s something to compare based on time and in that time you can see who is going where, thats the whole point.
Don`t forget that StatCounter do not use data weights. That`s mean when they receive less hits from China, Russia or Poland then Serbia, Romania or Netherland they don`t correct data.
StatCounter data mark only popularity of his statistic system and not global data market share.
StatCounter doesn’t even normalize the data…
StatCounter count prefetched pages as viewed pages, so it’s a HUGE plus for Chrome…
Can you say how “huge” ?
It depends on how many pages per user Chrome prerender/prefetch. I don’t think Google gave any info on that.
Based on the following blog post below, approx. 4.3%

Not since the 1st of May.
Could you quote this, please?
I refuse. Nevertheless, just go to StatCounter yourself and follow the green line that represents Chrome market share till you come upon a triangle.
No problem, I just managed to find it soon after my question.

Sorry to bother you.
Thank you for the apology, but I shamelessly refuse to accept it, as you did nothing wrong.
It seam that on Win8 on ARM there will be just one king (due to beeing only browser with JS JIT, threads, etc.).
On the desktop though, I do not think that IE will be any better than IE9 at the time of release. Just few months of Oh,Ah, etc. And then FF,Chrome, others will pass IE10 in terms of innvation. Also I do not belive that IE10 will pack enough of it, to outclass anyone at its premier.
An then will be 1,5y of IE decline.
Win8 on ARM can change it a bit though. However succesfull Win8 on ARM will run into anticompetition investigations for sure if it not allow the same level of integration for 3rd party web browsers.
HitsLink reported 53.68% vs. 13.11% (IE vs. Chrome) on June, 2011.
On April, 2012, the stats were 50.00% vs. 17.41%, respectively.
Which still gives IE “a huge margin”.
You should fix it on the post.
Done, thanks!
However you slice & dice the data Statistics can be very misleading.
“Lies, dammed lies and statistics”
No, StatCounter not lie but they use different methodology withou weight. It same like FavBrowser show their statistic and call it as global market share.
I am happy for google but I still prefer Opera :)).
Anyone know why chrome is not still making 64 bit ?
Also why people like chrome but not chromium; to me chromium is far better than chrome :))
Because Chrome is the one promoted everywhere by Google, bundled with many widely known softwares and mentioned in browser news?
Yeah, I don’t know why it is more liked than Chromium either.
