Mozilla & Others Receive $3.89 Million For A New ProjectIt’s all about the comment section.

If you thought that Mozilla only does PC software then you are wrong, thanks to the recent funding by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation for journalism, the open source organization along with New York Times and Washington Post have received a $3.89 million grant to create a new online community platform, which would be later offered at no charge to others.

According to Mozilla, they plan to create a platform, which would “allow readers to submit pictures, links and other media, track discussions, and manage their contributions and online identities”, in addition to that, “Publishers will then be able to collect and use this content for other forms of storytelling and spark ongoing discussions by providing readers with targeted content and notifications.”

While it doesn’t sound that unique when compared to other platforms, it might very well still surprise us.
