Apple Researching Methods to Offer Customized Control of Browser Based Audio Content
In a patent application filed in November 2007 and released today, Apple reveals that it is researching methods for providing customized audio control for Internet browser content. The research is targeting the inability for a single system volume setting to address multiple simultaneous audio-generating applications, a common inconvenience for computer users. For example, a user may have audio content playing in the background through iTunes and may wish to mute only browser-based audio content coming from websites.

Apple, what a good idea to patent! Really!
And what I like about it — it’s very original:

Right… because that’s not something you can’t do if you’re using Vista or Linux with Pulseaudio (or any other similar sound system)…
@FataL
Not sure what you’re trying to show… people wanting to turn off noisy and annoying flash isn’t really something uncommon with any app that have it.
@Foo, he is showing that Opera users requested this (browser volume control, even per site or per tab) many years ago.
So it’s basically a (really awful) cry for attention then.
As I said, this sort of feature is requested for every app that have more than 2 users.
A quick search for other browsers.
Feature Request: Volume control
Control the volume of music on webpages? (or mute/stop it)
I couldn’t really find a relevant forum, but there are probably requests for a feature like this in some IE forum too.
Still, it doesn’t really sound like this have anything to do with the browser. Sounds more lika what they are researching is a Vista/Pulseaudio style controller for sound.
@Foo:
Cry for attention?
Are you drunk or just retarded?
He pointed out that there is prior art. That people were discussing this idea years ago. How is that a cry for attention?
