Opera: Apple, Ubuntu Should Include Browser Ballot Screen Too
OSNews Writes:
Last week, the European Commission announced that Microsoft is willing to implement a browser ballot screen in Windows so that users can select a browser to install when installing Windows or when setting up their OEM computer. While this makes Opera very happy, Opera would like to see Ubuntu and Apple offer such a ballot screen too.

Well obviously. In fact, I’m pretty sure they want everyone to use their browser. Just like I’m sure that Apple would want a “hey you can use Iphone if you want” note included whenever someone buys a cell phone. Let’s write articles about that too.
Silly news is silly.
Opera want’s too much. People who run Ubuntu can easily install Opera already. It is in Add/Remove programs list. So it is different talk, unlike to microsoft.
Problem is, Opera didn’t say WANT. Opera’s CTO was specifically asked if it was a good idea, and he said that “it MAY be a good idea”.
In other words, he answered a specific question. He didn’t make any demands or specific suggestions. In fact, he clearly pointed out that it’s a different situation with Apple and Ubuntu since they aren’t convicted moonpolists.
Vygantas is blindly parroting anti-Opera propaganda again.
Hakon Lie said it was a good idea, the interviewer suggested the idea. They are not trying bundle it in those also, he said that the interviewers question was an idea.
I use Mandriva Linux: Firefox (and Konqueror) are pre-installed, Firefox default browser, it’s the same of Microsoft: the Linux distributions don’t allow you to install and make default the browser you want easily. (Opera neither is in repository…)
It sucks.
It’s in the non-free repo where it belongs:

That took one line in the location bar to find btw…
Err, one line? I meant two words of course… sorry for the double comment -_-
I just download it from Opera website and unnistall Firefox.
(Of course I have to configure KDE file extensions ¬¬)
Apple is so proprietary when it comes to stuff like this. I don’t think they’d ever give in to Opera.
the funniest thing is browser ballot screen use IE LOL
The MOCKUP uses IE. The actual ballot screen probably doesn’t.
Opera didn’t say Apple and Ubuntu SHOULD. He said “MAY be a good idea”.
