A Glimpse to Firefox 3.6
After sharing Firefox 3.7 and Firefox 4.0 functionality as well as user interface changes, it’s time to start focusing on the next Firefox release (code named Namoroka) which is going to be 3.6.
The upcoming Firefox version will be based on Gecko 1.9.2 layout engine and is targeted for early-to-mid 2010 release.
What’s new?
As you might expect, Firefox 3.6 will receive various performance improvements which include: faster startup times and greater overall responsiveness in user interface.
Also, it will allow developers to automatically hide the menu bar, play sounds for certain events that occurred and more.
As for other improvements, Firefox 3.6 is set to focus on personalization and customization, web applications support, system integration and tasks based navigation.

Personalization & Customization
Simplify the development, discovery, installation and management of browser customization and functional extension. Where possible, provide a custom fit user experience based on a user’s interaction history. Act in the user’s interests, leveraging existing knowledge about their identity and browsing habits.
Task Based Navigation
Allow users to organize their tabs, history, downloaded files, and other resources according to the task they were attempting to accomplish. Provide support for executing common web-based tasks, mash-up style, without having to visit a website.
Web Application Support
Blur the distinction between web and desktop applications, providing web developers with the tools required to create rich application experiences for a user who is connected or disconnected from the Internet. Act as the intermediary between web applications and the user’s OS desktop.

Woa, mid 2010? What happened to Mozilla releasing quicker updates? So we won’t be seeing 3.7 for two years? That is ridiculous.
The amount of people using Firefox is growing out of proportion. Their market share is killing them, quite simply.
I’m still not bothered by the slow updates, but I’m worried it may be a long while before Firefox 4, which is what I’m really looking after.
# “release Firefox 3.6 mid-to-late fall, potentially as minor update”

That’s the newest roadmap… The one in the wiki is quite old.
If they’re planning to release it “mid-to-late fall”, they’ll do it in mid-2010 like it was with Fx3.5 ;-)
Had they only concentrated on speed, it would have helped them a lot. That is the only thing Firefox looses upon when competing with Webkit based browsers.
