Opera Mini Makes Big MoneyIn the recent report, released by Opera Software, company claims that mobile browser Opera Mini generates about $1.2 billion/year in revenue for operators worldwide, thanks to its data compression technology.

“In February 2010, people browsing with Opera Mini (in the top 10 countries according to unique users) spent approximately 103.8 million dollars. That figure translates to approximately 1.2 billion dollars per year.”

    It would be great if someone share the revenue model for this Opera Mini browser. I was thinking its a free tool.

      I think it’s saying people spend money/credit on data transfer. The network operators are the ones who’d receive this revenue. Opera get money when OEMs pre-install Opera Mini on devices (I think), and through an agreement with Google to include them as the default search provider.

    Now all the search companies like Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask,..etc will be behind Opera requesting all those pages(URLs) that are transcoded and its complete data. All search companies would need this data for their search results improvement.
    Opera can earn lot of money!! Cool!!
