Google Chrome: Installer Does Not Open?
Got any setup issues? If Google Chrome installer does not work for you (nothing happens, when opening it), there might be nothing wrong with it.
In fact, if you already have Chrome installed and trying to upgrade it, installation might run silently.
After you have “launched” setup, just open “About Google Chrome” and see version number. It’s highly possible, that you are already running your preferred release.

Google Chrome 5 Already Here
Apparently, Google has already released a beta version of Google Chrome 5.0.307.1 web browser. Don’t get excited yet, as changes are minimal and there are no drastic new features and/or improvements.

Use default downloads directory on Vista and Windows 7 (except where it is the desktop)
Start work on Content Settings window and sub-dialogs.
With release cycles like these, we should see Google Chrome 7 by the end of this year.

Firefox: Hide Menu, Navigation Bar, Tabs, Bookmarks and Statusbar
Here is one more tip/extension for Firefox users. With simple add-on “Hide GUI Bars” you can hide various GUI elements, such as: menu, navigation bar, tabs, bookmarks and statusbar using toggle keys (CTRL+Shift+A).

How to Disable CTRL+Q (and other Hotkeys) in Firefox, Thunderbird
Ever accidentally pressed CTRL+Q or any other hot key, when you didn’t really need that? Fortunately, extension called “keyconfig” will help you on this.
Not only you can change and disable hotkeys for Firefox and Thunderbird, but also: Sunbird, Flock, ChatZilla on XULRunner, Prism, Songbird, McCoy, SeaMonkey 2.0, etc.
keyconfig adds the ability to create new or modify existing shortcuts defined by a element, but only changing those which itself call a function (those with a command or oncommand attribute) has an effect (all others fulfill only cosmetic purposes it seems and are grayed out).
After it’s installed, just hit Ctrl+Shift+F12 (Tools > Keyconfig), find CTRL+Q and click on “Disable” button. That’s it.

Bye, Google, Yahoo! to Become Default Search Engine in Firefox (Ubuntu)
Starting from Ubuntu 10.04 (Ubuntu Lucid), the default search provider in new OS installations will be set to Yahoo! rather than Google.
The following announcement comes after Canonical Ltd. (company behind Ubuntu) struck a revenue sharing deal with Yahoo! Inc.
As for stats, Yahoo! search market share in US slipped down from 8.5% (November) to 8.28% (December), according to Stat Counter.

As you might have noticed, there are some minor changes in FavBrowser.com
First of all, each post is now separated with light border, making it easier for you to track and read news.
Comments page will no longer reload, when replying to specific message. Reply button was changed as well. In case you see no changes, try refreshing it (F5/CTRL + F5).
We have some really great stuff planned in near future, stay tuned.

Google Chrome 4.0, 1 800 Extensions and Bookmark Sync
After months in beta, Google has finally released final version of Chrome 4.0 web browser. Furthermore, it now officially supports extensions and bookmark synchronization (Google account required).
The best thing about long awaited extensions is: browser restart is not required. It’s just a one click installation, simple as that. Also, they are automatically updated.
As for today, there are over 1 800 extensions available, such as: Google Voice, goo.gl url shortener, IE Tab Classic and many more.

Microsoft Fills a Patent for an Enhanced Tabbed Browsing
Some time ago, Microsoft has filed a patent, designed to improve tabbed browsing functionality, which might be revealed in the upcoming Internet Explorer 9 release.
Abstract (as from uspto.gov):
The techniques and mechanisms described herein are directed to a method for managing and selecting one out of large set of open tabs in a tabbed browser. Browsing software is configured to provide a quick pick user-interface that visually displays the content of the several tabs, such as a by displaying a thumbnail for each tab.
