Microsoft Continues To Attack Chromebooks
Offers various alternatives.
During Chrome OS announcement, former Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer, just laughed at Google. Now, it looks like the software giant is getting more and more aggressive towards Chromebooks, with the latest tactic being a new section in its store.
What is it all about? Basically, it matches Chromebooks against Windows machines on the similar price level, such as Dell Inspiron 15 ($249), ASUS X551MAV ($249), Acer Aspire E 15 ES1 ($249).

Despite the fact that IE8 is 5 years old, it is still used by more than 20% of all desktop users worldwide (as it still remains the most popular web browser in the world).

Microsoft Starts Blocking Old ActiveX Plugins
Good bye, ActiveX.
In an effort to improve the overall browser security and reduce user frustration, the software giant has announced that it will start blocking outdated ActiveX controls starting August 12, 2014.
According to Microsoft, “Java exploits represented 84.6% to 98.5% of exploit kit-related detections each month in 2013” and “to help avoid this situation with ActiveX controls, an update to Internet Explorer on August 12, 2014 will introduce a new security feature, called out-of-date ActiveX control blocking.”

Google And Acer Announces A New Chromebook
Promises great battery life.
Today, Google and Acer have announced what they call “a new type” of Chromebook, which focuses on one thing only: battery life.
Thanks to the NVidia’s Tegra K1 processor, newly revealed Acer Chromebook 13 is said to have a battery life of up to 13 hours, a pretty decent number indeed.
What about the price? Considering you go for the cheapest (non 1080p touchscreen display), it will cost you around $279.

Google: No Plans For Chrome On Windows Phone
Needs more privileges.
Earlier this year we reported that Google was investigating the possibility of Google Chrome on Windows Phone, which got our hopes high.
Now, it looks like the search giant has finally reached a decision and it’s simple: there won’t be Google Chrome on WP anytime soon, the reason? According to the updated post, “Chrome needs more privileges than a regular metro app so there is no simple port.”
