Everyone Loves IE – Sitemeter Kills Thousands of Sites for IE Users

By | August 4, 2008 | 2 Comments

Everyone Loves IE - Sitemeter Kills Thousands of Sites for IE UsersThe behavior began few days ago whene Sitemeter updated their scripts. Unfortunately, they forgot about a bug of the Internet Explorer (really old one) that has been causing a “Operation aborted” error.

If your web page had a Sitemeter counter, Internet Explorer users eventually see an “Operation aborted” error message. Once they click OK, the whole page disappears and is replaced by a blank page.

Whose fault is this? Both of course. However, this is not a new and/or unknown bug; they just didn’t test it on Internet Explorer = bad idead.

Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) Beta 1 vs. Safari 3.1 vs. Firefox 3.0 vs. Opera 9.5 vs Flock (Firefox 2.0)After yesterdays post about web browsers memory usage, Morbus provided a great link to Sam’s post which contains graphs and more detailed information. Here’s a conclusion from that link:

Safari 3.1
Safari on Windows shows extremely poor memory management, and I do not know whether it ever reaches a high water mark. If this is by design, it is certainly a design that looks inefficient and seems to contradict Apple’s marketing. Continue Reading

Browsers Memory BattleThere is an article in ComputerWorld.com called “Firefox 3.0 wins memory battle, says tester“. Sam Allen was testing Firefox, Internet Explorer (IE), Flock, Opera and Safari web browsers to see who wins in the memory management. “Test” is quite funny. There are no graphs at all and basically nothing… I guess this is what quality article is all about.

OperaAccording to Tamar Weinberg from Search Engine Roundtable:

“After much frustration with Google’s Custom Search Engine, it seems that Google’s CSE doesn’t actually support the Opera web browser. Apparently, when Opera users try to set up the Google custom search engine, they fill in all forms, hit save, but nothing happens.” Continue Reading
