Chrome 2, Webkit 4 and Firefox 3.1 beats IE 8 and Opera 10
ZDNet Australia has compared the following web browsers in SunSpider (yet again) and Google V8 2 benchmarks:
Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1 (RC1)
Firefox 3.1b1 (although b2 was released some time ago)
Chrome 2.0.158.0
WebKit r40220
Opera 10.00 Alpha
Results are actually quite interesting, when you compare IE 8 RC1 with Opera 10 Alpha.
As you can see, in SunSpider’s test, Opera 10 Alpha is just a bit ahead of IE8 RC1. And of course, Google wins on their own benchmark.

i still believe that a javascript engine that compiles it on the fly it’s not that useful..
Google V8 is so full of shit. There’s no way anyone would believe those results.
+1
Google V8 sucks as hell…
Benchmark results are not very important as they don’t necessarily reflect the real world. For example, Opera 10 has only optimised some critical areas of their engine that do affect the performance of real pages. Therefore, running a js benchmark that tests all the aspects of the language may give us irrelevant results.
Then again, javascript benchmarks are made taking into consideration real world necessities. I think sunspider is still the best benchmark out there.
They should have tested using Dromaeo ( http://dromaeo.com/ ) instead as neither V8 nor SunSpider tests DOM performance (i.e. actual interactions with the content of pages). Also, Dromaeo incorporates the tests from V8 and SunSpider!
You can also only select to test specific key areas on that test if you want…
Btw, they turned on JITing in beta2 of Firefox, didn’t they?
In the legends for the graphs don’t you have the Opera and IE8 switched around?
You guys do notice that the first graph is based on score, and the second graph is based on time right? So this would mean chrome wins in both benchtests. Tiago Sá and Skracanie linków need to get a clue.
Firefox is still my favourite, even though Chrome is faster. But I’m seriouly concerned about security in Chrome. Here’s why: http://www.auslogics.com/en/blog/2009/06/google-chrome-2-the-good-and-the-disappointing/
