Firefox 3.1 Gone, Welcome Firefox 3.5

By | March 5, 2009

The upcoming Firefox release (Shiretoko) which is currently in development will be released as Firefox 3.5 instead of the planed 3.1. It should be noted, that Firefox Beta 3 which is going to be released within 5 days will still have 3.1 tag.

According to the meeting notes, the following decision was made due to many changes, or as it says “3.1 -> 3.5 to indicate increased scope”

    looks like bullshit for me.

    Comparing 9.2x with 9.5 = makes sence

    Comaring Firefox 3.0 with 3.5 = nonsence

The difference will not be that big for such a big step.

    New in 3.5:
    · Private browsing
    · SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine
    · HTML5 features (audio, video…)
    · CSS Selectors + CSS3 features
    · Offline events, native JSON

    · Theme cleanup
    · Performance improvements
