Firefox Co-Founder is Skeptical about Firefox Growth

Firefox Co-Founder is Skeptical about Firefox GrowthBlake Ross, the co-founder of Firefox web browser appears to be skeptical about Firefox growth.

Answering to one of the Quora (questions/answers community) members questions (Will Firefox have double-digit market share in 3 to 5 years), he said:

I’m pretty skeptical. I think the Mozilla Organization has gradually reverted back to its old ways of being too timid, passive and consensus-driven to release breakthrough products quickly.

Mozilla’s CEO, John Lilly has also responded with the following comment:

I’m hardly an unbiased observer, but am confident that it will. Product is getting better all the time, and especially with 4.0 approaching in the fall. We’ve got 400M users and are growing that number. And we have a huge community of committed people around the world working on making it better. It’s more competitive than ever, but I feel pretty good about our chances, not only on the desktop, but also on Android, which is already looking good.

What do you think about Firefox future?

I think throughout Firefox’s life, the amount of SUMO contributors and extension developers were always relative to Firefox’s market share growth. I don’t know where, now, but I remember seeing some graph that showed this…

So, if you want to guess how Firefox is going to fare in the future, just check how many extensions are being released and developed, and how many SUMO supporters there are :D

I think Firefox 4 must be the fastest browser in the market, otherwise people will seriously think of switching to fast browsers like Opera and Google Chrome. If they don’t do this, they won’t be able to go beyond 30% in market share.
