Internet Explorer 6 Market Share to Reach 10% in 2010
If we analyze Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 market share trend, the following conclusion can be made:
IE6 lost 13.02 points of market share since May, 2009. That’s about 1.085 point per month. Since there are still 6 months till the end of 2010, we can presume this:
17.13 – 1.085 * 6.51 = 10.62
Add plausible Internet Explorer 9 release in late 2010/Early 2011 (just speculations), and it might even drop below 10%.
Now that’s a nice Christmas gift.

Sooner, rather than later, IE6 will be only used by corporate entities to use their ActiceX software. Basically, when that happens, it will have about 3% of market share, and people will stop developing for them (except for the sites aimed at corporate entities).
I can’t really say when this will happen, in my opinion, because I expect a few major sites to drop IE6 support until the end of the year… YouTube and Google Docs have done it, already. It’s going down people!
This is really good news!!
Good news for all including Microsoft.
