Official Yahoo! Response to Opera and Google Mobile Search Deal

Official Yahoo! Response to Opera and Google Mobile Search DealSome time ago Opera and Google made a mobile search deal (read more about it here). Haavard from my.opera.com found Yahoo! response to this deal on news.yahoo.com

I’m just wondering….
Was it really Yahoo! who has decided to cancel this deal? Anyone from Opera team would like to comment maybe? :-)

Without explaining why their year-old deal has ended, Yahoo said it decided to call off the agreement. “Yahoo has elected not to continue its mobile search partnership with Opera at this time,” it said in a statement.

“Consumers with Opera browsers will continue to have access to Yahoo oneSearch, and as long-standing partners, Opera and Yahoo will continue to work together.”

Hahahaha. . . Of course Yahoo didn’t drop Opera! Vicè versa! Yahoo is being dropped by everyone as if it were hot coal or dry ice. . ! ;) Opera must tie up further with Google to better its market position. . .

As far as I know, the advertising deal was up for renewal anyway – there’s no way Opera are going to sign up with Yahoo! again if there’s any risk whatsoever of Microsoft eventually buying them. Or in fact, of anyone else buying them. Google is the safer long-term partner.
