Opera Software Founder & Former CEO, Jon Von Tetzchner, Launches His Own Web Browser!
He’s back! With mouse gestures, tab stacking, 64 bit builds, Linux love and more.
Despite the fact that Jon Von Tetzchner has left Opera Software long time ago (to focus on other things), it looks like his love for web browsers refuses to vanish.
The latest proof comes from a newly released web browser aimed at the power users called Vivaldi and boy does it remind us of the old versions of Opera (minus compatibility issues).
So why exactly was Vivaldi launched in the first place? According to Jon, Opera has changed his direction and is no longer serving its community or users, as a result, the team has decided to launch a new web browser and this is exactly how Vivaldi was born.
Now the next logical question is: why is it special? Well, if we look at the bigger picture (and not current developer builds), it really looks like something that will be made for the power users, I mean, the mail icon alone gives you a small glimpse of what’s coming soon, as well as settings tab (and there are a lot of settings), notes, a speed dial that does not spam you with search boxes that can’t be removed and so on.
Yes, it does use Chromium for its code base although we question whether or not it is actually based on the current versions of Opera since Vivaldi too (just like Opera) failed to import Opera 12.x passwords during our test, not to mention other familiarities.

what is the point. opera is about presto.
BTW I am waiting for servo.
Servo, is that new redering engine that is being worked on by the Mozilla Foundation?
And Samsung.
Ah right, I was wondering what had happened to that. It was announced like 2 years ago (https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2013/04/03/mozilla-and-samsung-collaborate-on-next-generation-web-browser-engine/), and did hear anything about it. So it is still being worked on, hopefully it will come out soon.

You’re about 4 months late with this post Vygantas, but… better late than never.
I was contacted just few hours ago by Vivaldi team :)
Yea, I actually have being waited news from you. late but no problem :)
I tweeted to you and sent you an email back in March about Vivaldi, without any response. I thought you just don’t want to write about it.
Yeah, this post confused me. I went to the website, thinking may be the Final build came out, but nope, it’s still TP3.
Good thing we have Firefox to stick to
