November, 2009 – Firefox, Opera and Chrome Market Share Goes Up; IE, Safari – Down
It’s a new month and few market share data. Let’s get it going.
Just like any other month, Internet Explorer market share keeps going down, this time it fell from 64.64% to 63.62% (1.02 point decrease).
With the upcoming Firefox 3.6 release, this browser increased its market share by 0.65 point, from 24.07% to 24.72%.
After previous gain in October, this time Safari‘s market share fell from 4.42% to 4.36% (0.06% decrease). Continue Reading

Internet Explorer 8 Blocks 2 Million Malicious Websites Daily
Dean Hachamovitch at IEBlog revealed that Internet Explorer 8 SmartScreen filter blocks over 2 million malicious sites every day. That’s quite a number.
SmartScreen offers protection against phishing and cross-site scripting attacks.

Mozilla Releases Firefox 3.6 Beta 4
This morning, Mozilla has released one more beta of Firefox 3.6 web browser. Not only it fixes over 100+ bugs, but also includes a support for the HTML5 File API.
The final version or Firefox 3.6 should be ready be the end of this year.

Opera 10.20 Alpha Revealed
Now that’s a pleasant surprise. Today, Opera Software has released first alpha build of Opera 10.20 web browser.
While 10.10 focused on Opera Unite, this version aims to improve Opera Widgets, as one of its new features allows running them beyond the web browser. As for now, they have not yet added any “non-wdiget” features.

Browsers Hardware Rendering: Direct2D vs. “Regular” (GDI)
As you might know, Microsoft is planning to add hardware accelerated rendering to its upcoming Internet Explorer 9 release.
What about other web browsers? Well, Mozilla plans to do the same and ship final product faster than MS does.

Mozilla’s 2008 Financial Statements
Few days ago, Mozilla Foundation has revealed their financial results for the year 2008.
As you can see, revenue is growing as well as software development expenses.
